This appellation extends over the northern half of the Beaujolais vineyard, from Mâcon to Villefranche-en-Beaujolais, between the Saône valley and the Beaujolais peaks, covering the ten communal appellations as well as the land around, descending to south to the Nizerand valley and up the valley of the Ardières upstream of Beaujeu.
